So you want to Survive huh? Well what does that actually mean? Mother Nature not liking cry babies may sound a little harsh but it is actually true in just about every survival situation whether that be urban or wilderness. Survival, simply stated is "The gathering of enough of the necessities of Life to get through the day and night" Be it going to work each day to pay the bills or gathering enough fire wood and food to make it through the Winter. The same strategies apply to all when it comes to the basics. What you will learn is that Survival is a Mental game as much as a physical one. Yes, health and moderate strength play a part but the larger part is the mental aspect. You need to know yourself. Do you know how you will react when the lights go out? You would be amazed at who will fall apart in these situations. The simplest task seems a Mystery, stunned by the sudden paradigm shift. Something weird happens to humans when placed in a state of shock and it is easy for Cognitive Dissonance (Remember that term!) to take over, a sort of nether world the mind slips into. This is not good, because now more than ever you have to be able to think clearly! Others, whether it be your family or your community, are depending on you to Stay COOL, Stay ALERT and NOT CRY! I live in a Village of 3700 souls in a rural area of South Central Ontario called the Kawartha Lakes. I would like to live on a farm but that was`nt possible so I live in the Village. I have a small house (950 sq ft) the design is called a Regency Cottage and they were common circa 1926. I have a large lot (60` by 180`) and I decided to turn my back yard into a farm yard and grow my way to sustainability. Heating with high efficiency wood stove, growing my own food and adventuring into the rugged wilderness that abounds in the Kawarthas. A kayakers paradise to be sure, plying the peaceful backwaters that feed Sturgeon and Pigeon Lakes. Why don`t you join me in this adventure? This page will be dealing with survival issues of all kinds, starting with the un boxing of my Rocket Stove to an update on the garden and the weather. Be well, Steve
